Bihar Flood Relief

The floods caused by the breach in the eastern afflux embankment in Nepal on August 18 are the worst to have hit the region. Over 2 million people are bearing the brunt of floods, which have destroyed over Rs.1500 million worth of crops. A hundred and fifty thousand people had been rescued but 2 million people are still marooned. Some 1.2 million people have seen their towns and villages swamped by flooding in Bihar.

KDM India took the initiative to help the relief work which was in progress in Bihar by donating a certain sum of money from employees who wished to donate their one day salary for this cause. To kick start this initiative, Mr. Dipak Deva, COO India & South Asia had contributed Rs 10,000, in addition to the one day salary towards this cause.

This initiative was carried forward in association with an NGO, Goonj, which has been working extensively in Bihar, with a special focus on the annual floods. For many years now, GOONJ has been working extensively in Bihar through its grassroots partners, with a special focus on the annual floods. Two employees from KDM India belonging to Bihar will also be joining the NGO in Bihar to help in the relief work.
